As explained in previous WP:60s, the Bold-Revert-Discuss (BRD) cycle is about how to conduct a civil debate, and edit wars are what happens when contributors stop being civil. Today we'll alight upon the processes by which these wars are brought to an end.
Broadly, this is called Dispute resolution. Confusingly, there is not just one place to start, but several forums for different purposes:
- If a disagreement is only between two editors, you'll want to get a Third opinion (3O).
- If a discussion involving two or more other editors isn't going anywhere, you may make a Request for comment (RfC).
- If you have tried these and they aren't working, the Dispute resolution noticeboard (DRN) focuses on content.
- If the issue is an editor's behavior, there's another board for that (ANI).
In future installments we'll discuss each in more detail.
