Football vs. Football: World Cup Viewers vs. Super Bowl Viewers (2022 Update)

Football is the most popular sport in the United States, and it's not particularly close. Of the 25 most-watched sporting events in the first half of 2022, 22 of them were football games. During the NFL season, the top weekly 5 shows usually consist of nationally broadcast football games, their pre-game coverage, and post-game coverage. It goes without saying that the Super Bowl is the most-watched television show across American households, year in and year out, regularly pulling in north of 100 million viewers. Of course, we're talking about American football. And we're just talking about the United States.

If you want to see real numbers, though, you need to look at the other football. On Sunday, the 2022 FIFA World Cup begins in Qatar. Its final matchup, the World Cup Final, is the Super Bowl of the association football. Or maybe the Super Bowl is the World Cup Final of American football? See the comparison below, and decide for yourself.
