BINK Quarterly | Q2 2026
Welcome to the latest edition of the BINK Quarterly, a roundup of what Beutler Ink has been up to over the past 12 weeks, and the state of Wikipedia consulting more broadly.
In one sense, the story in Q2 was a lot like Q1: there's this thing called AI, you may have heard something about it? But even AI is changing by the week—to say nothing of the quarter—and so is what it means for Wikipedia.
💥 Wikipedia Is Having a Moment. That's Good News and Bad News.
Word has gotten out that Wikipedia is one of the most influential sources feeding LLM answers, which is causing a traffic jam of sorts. Lately, COI edit requests and new-article proposals are at or near all-time highs.
But more interest than ever also means it's harder than ever to get a request through, not just because of the crowd, but also because Wikipedia has only become more discerning as the volume—and stakes—climb. All of which makes working with the right team the difference between getting it done and getting ignored.
👜 How the Birkin Bag Is Like a Wikipedia Page
Molly LeCronier, our partner at The Notability Company, has a fun and insightful new piece on the Wikipedia page as a status symbol: the rare kind you can't buy outright, even if you have the money. Read it here.
🤖 What Does Your Edit History Actually Say?
Every Wikipedia article contains a record of its past: every edit, every editor, every dispute. It's just hidden. In Q2 at BINK we've gotten into the vibe-coding game, spinning up internal tools that let us run the kind of analysis that simply wasn't possible until very recently. We're keeping the details to ourselves for now, but if there's something you've always wanted to know about your page, it never hurts to ask. Drop us a line—we might already be able to tell you.
📺 Coming Soon: WikiWord
Our YouTube playlist continues to grow with wiki commentary as Bill does more interviews. Now we're kicking the pivot to video up a notch, with a new short series hosted by our own Josh Leach that digs into the latest goings-on around Wikipedia. It's called WikiWord, and here's a first look. Keep an eye out—the first episodes land soon.
🗞️ A Few More Ways to Keep Up
Between quarterly editions, there's plenty happening all the time:
What's the Diff? is our running series of data visualizations on LinkedIn, surfacing surprising facts about how Wikipedia works at a glance.
WikiWise, our monthly newsletter, rounds up the Wikipedia news worth knowing for anyone watching this space.
And don't forget The Ink Tank, our company blog sharing announcements and insights. Recent: Wikigaming: New Ways to Surf the Internet's Encyclopedia.
📍 One More Thing: Our Kind of Town
Beutler Ink's team summit is coming to Chicago in late September! If you're in town and want to grab time with any of us, drop us a line. We'd love to share a deep dish with you.
